Early one morning I was walking up the main trail, not paying attention to much because I wasn't expecting much on the main trail. Just before getting to the pond, I finally noticed a little snake. And it noticed me about the same time! Since I had no idea what it was--or how much room I should give it--I got close enough to look for ID information. It was about 14-16 inches long. No photos, though, because he disappeared into the weeds too fast. It wasn't until several years later that I found a second--much smaller--Pacific Ringneck Snake.
